Gaylord Hotels and DreamWorks Entertainment are teaming up in a promotion at the four Gaylord properties — including Gaylord National at National Harbor, on the Potomac nearWashington.

Shrek , Fiona, Alex the Lion, Po, King Julien, Puss in Boots, a couple of oversized penguins and other characters from DreamWorks Animation will visit the Gaylord resorts starting Nov. 21 and continuing through Jan. 8.

Every winter, the Gaylord Hotels present Ice!, featuring 2 million pounds of ice sculptures, including a hand-carved house through which guests can walk. This year's theme at the National is Merry Madagascar.

Special holiday weekends, summer vacations, birthdays and other themed activities are scheduled at other times of the year. Meetings and conventions represent about 80 percent of the business at the Gaylord properties.
